President

Rachael White

Rachael, an English student at Pembroke, has been baking since lockdown. “Admittedly,” she says of this, “there’s been lots of disasters along the way!” Her favourite things to bake are either focaccia or blondies, and as our mighty leader, she can’t wait to learn about new types of bakes from around the world. The greatest loves her her life are  the Lord of the Rings, fantasy, and Mary Berry. “What a woman,” says Rachael. “I want her to be my Nan <3”. We’re not sure how you said <3 out loud Rachael, but consider us impressed.

Co-President

Mari Gorton

Mari is a second year at Pembroke. Their villain origin story is a tale as old as time- one day they got really stressed and started baking to calm down and then just never stopped. They are a keen rollerskater and gourmet of custard tarts [:)], and see Baking Soc as an opportunity to meet new people and share ideas. When approached for further comment, Mari simply said : “pog”.

Secretary

Treasurer

Ayeza Akhtar

Kate French

A Pembroke student, Ayeza is primarily a consumer of baked goods, but I may whip out a batch of blueberry muffins every once in a while [:))] Of course, she is an avid Bake Off watcher, and hopes that here in Baking Soc we may seek to emulate that very paragon of British television by organising Bake Off watch parties or a Bake Off style competition. Her favourite thing to bake is brownies (a classic), and also enjoys painting and hand embroidery.

When Kate, a PPEist at Mansfield, was 5, her grandma taught her how to make a cake, and I have enjoyed baking as a hobby ever since [:)]. She likes to paint, and play the piano, as well as taking (sometimes quite long) walks in nature. As for her favourite thing to bake- nothing beats a good chocolate and cherry brownie. In her new role as our illustrious secretary, Kate is really looking forward to being able to meet new people who also enjoy baking!

Marketing and IT

Eleni Thwaites

In her free time, Eleni does French and Russian at Merton. At other times, they made this website. Most of the time, Eleni is forcing her croissants on her various choirs, buying Sainsburys out of eggs, or threatening people into buying a ticket to the Merton Winter Ball.
